CRESTON - The NIACC baseball team moved its winning streak to five games with an ICCAC doubleheader sweep of Southwestern on Wednesday.
NIACC, which was coming off a 3-game sweep of Marshalltown CC, topped Southwestern 14-4 in five innings in the opener and completed the sweep with a 16-1 win in seven innings.
In the five-game winning streak, the Trojans have outscored their opponent 68-21 and have scored at least 10 runs in all five victories.
In the first game, NIACC scored at least one run in each of its five at-bats, including five runs in the fourth inning.
NIACC sophomore Darcy Barry was 3 for 4, including a triple and home run, with four runs scored and three RBIs. Eli Anderson, Isaac Huettl and Alex Matchey all collected two hits.
NIACC's Sam Kwapnioski hit a 3-run home run and drove in a total of four runs.
Trevor Hamil (2-2) gained the win for the Trojans allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
In the second game, NIACC broke the contest open early by scoring nine runs in the second inning.
The Trojans received home runs from Kwapnioski and Huettl.
Barry was 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Trett Joles was 2 for 2 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Four NIACC pitchers combined to hold the Spartans to one run on five hits. Zach LaMont (1-0) gained the win in relief for the Trojans by tossing two scoreless innings in relief of starter Preston Steiner.
NIACC (19-26 overall, 11-14 in the ICCAC) returns to action Friday and Saturday in a three-game series against Northeast CC in Norfolk, Neb.
