
Trojans fall to Kirkwood, 12-9
CEDAR RAPIDS - The NIACC baseball team dropped a 12-9 ICCAC contest to Kirkwood on Friday afternoon on the Kirkwood campus.
Kirkwood jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. NIACC scored five runs in its half of the third inning to trim the Eagles' lead to 6-5.
Kirkwood (29-12 overall, 10-9 in the league) scored a single run in its half of the third frame and fourth frames and added four more runs in the fifth inning.
NIACC also managed two runs in the fifth inning and single runs in the sixth and ninth innings.
NIACC received two hits each from Will Couchman, Trett Joles, Alex Matchey, Payton Fort and Darcy Barry. Fort led the Trojans with a career-high four RBIs.
Couchman, Fort and Barry all homered for the Trojans. It is the second time in the last three games that the Trojans have hit three home runs.
The Trojans collected 11 hits, including five for extra bases. It was the sixth time in league play that the Trojans pounded out at least 10 hits.
NIACC (14-26, 6-14) returns to action Saturday at home with an ICCAC single game against Marshalltown CC (10-28, 2-17). First pitch at Roosevelt Field is slated for 1 p.m.
NIACC and Marshalltown CC will also play a league twinbill on Sunday starting at noon.
