NIACC splits with No. 5 Iowa Central
- Stroh picks up win in relief in 2nd game
- Trojans, Tritons wrap up series Monday
FORT DODGE - The NIACC baseball team split an ICCAC twinbill with No. 5 (NJCAA Division II) Iowa Central on Saturday at Harlan Rogers Park.
Iowa Central won the first game 5-4 and the Trojans salvaged a split with an 8-6 win in the second game.
The second game win by the Trojans is the first over a rated team for them since topping then No. 8 Iowa Central 15-8 in the second game of a twinbill on April 29, 2023.
NIACC is now 13-20 overall and 5-8 in the ICCAC. Iowa Central is 29-5 overall and 7-5 in leaague play.
In the second game, NIACC scored three runs in the second inning, one run in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh frame.
Iowa Central scored two runs in the third inning and plated four runs in its last at-bat in the ninth innng.
Mason Stroh (2-0) picked up the win for the Trojans. He tossed six innings in relief of starter Zach Dohrmann allowing four runs on three hits with a career-high seven strikeouts and two walks.
NIACC's Tyler Meyer recorded the final out of the contest to collect the his first career save.
NIACC scored its eight runs on four hits. The Trojans' leadoff hitter Eli Anderson drove in two runs.
In the first game, Iowa Central walked off the Trojans with a single run in its last at-bat in the seventh inning.
NIACC scored two runs in the first inning and plated single runs in the fifth and sixth frames. Iowa Central scored four runs in the fourth inning to go with its single run in the seventh frame.
NIACC received RBIs from Charlie Harms, Alex Matchey and Will Couchman. Trett Joles collected two hits for the Trojans.
The third and final game of the three-game series is slated for Monday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
