NIACC stops Marshalltown CC, 15-4
MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team pounded out 13 hits, including two home runs, and topped Marshalltown CC 15-4 in seven innings in an ICCAC contest Saturday afternoon at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC received a 3-run home run from freshman Payton Fort in the second inning and a 2-run home run from sophomore Darcy Barry in the fourth inning.
In the second inning, the Trojans scored eight runs on four hits and they also took advantage of two Marshalltown CC errors. Will Couchman also added an RBI single in the frame.
NIACC also scored two runs in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning.
The 15 runs by the Trojans is the most since they topped Minnesota North-Hibbing 27-7 on March 10 in Clarion. The 15 runs is the most the Trojans have scored in a conference game this season.
Barry was 3 for 4, including a double and home run. The Trojans also received two hits each from Eli Anderson, Couchman and Carter Dalton.
NIACC (15-26 overall, 7-14 in the ICCAC) and Marshalltown CC (10-30, 2-19) wrap up their 3-game series Sunday with a doubleheader at Roosevelt Field. The first game is slated to start at noon.
