MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team dropped an ICCAC doubleheader to No. 7 Southeastern CC on Saturday at Roosevelt Field.
Southeastern CC won the opener 1-0 and took the second game 13-6.
In the first game, Southeastern pushed across the lone run of the contest in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Carter Gallagher.
NIACC (14-23 overall, 6-11 in the ICCAC) collected three of its four hits in its last at-bat in the seventh inning but the Trojans could not push across a run.
NIACC starter John Lyman (2-3) took the loss allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts and no walks and two hit batters in six innings of work.
The last time there was a 1-0 contest at Roosevelt Field was when the Trojans nipped Ellsworth 1-0 in the second game of a doubleheader on April 27, 2022. The Trojans' Connor Wietgriefe tossed a complete-game (nine innings) 4-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk.
In the second game, Southeastern pounded out 15 hits to score its 13 runs. The Blackhawks led the second game from start to finish by plating four runs in the first inning.
NIACC trimmed the deficit to 12-6 with four runs in the eighth inning. Alex Matchey hit a 3-run homer for the Trojans and Will Couchman plated a run with a single.
Couchman collected three hits with two RBIs and Sam Kwapnioski hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
NIACC and Southeastern (29-9, 13-4) wrap up their 3-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday. The single 9-inning game starts at 1 p.m. at Roosevelt Field.
