
Trojans drop series finale to LSU-Eunice

EUNICE, La. - The NIACC baseball team dropped a 5-3 contest to No. 2 (NJCAA Division II) LSU-Eunice Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 5-1 in the seventh inning, the Trojans trimmed the Bengals' lead to 5-3 with a 2-run double from Eli Anderson.
LSU-Eunice (26-1) won the 3-game series by the scores of 17-2 (7 innings), 3-0 and 5-3.
In Saturday's game, LSU-Eunice scored all five of its runs in the first inning. The Trojans plated a single run in the their half of the first inning and pushed across the two runs in the seventh frame.
Anderson and Will Couchman both collected two hits Saturday against LSU-Eunice.
NIACC relief pitchers Tyler Meyer (3 innings), Kegan Schlichting (2 innings) and Jaxon Bunkers (2 innings) pitched eight innings of scoreless relief. Meyer struck out seven, walked two and allowed one hit in his three innings of work.
NIACC pitchers struck out 11 Bengals' hitters on Saturday. The 11 strikeouts is one off the Trojans' season high and the eighth time this season NIACC pitchers have struck out at least 10 hitters in a game.
NIACC (8-12) opens ICCAC play with a doubleheader at Ellsworth on Wednesday in Iowa Falls. The first game of the twinbill is slated for 1 p.m.
