
NIACC tops Ellsworth, 6-4
- Trojans score 4 runs in 6th frame
- Lyman collects win, Roberts gains save
NORWALK - The NIACC baseball team topped Ellsworth 6-4 on Wednesday in an ICCAC contest at the Gregg Young Sports Complex.
The game was originally supposed to be played in Mason City, but due to field conditions it was moved.
NIACC scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead to make a winner out of starter John Lyman, a left-hander who allowied three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in six innings of work. Lyman (2-2) has 22 strikeouts in his three ICCAC starts, including a career-high nine against Ellsworth on March 20.
The Trojans' Ethen Roberts allowed one run in the final three innings to pick up his second career save. Roberts struck out one and did not walk a batter.
NIACC's Eli Anderson was 2 for 5, including a double and a triple with two RBIs. Anderson now has 104 career hits, which is tied with Hunter King (2012-13) for 25th place on the school's career hit list.
Also for the Trojans, Alex Matchey was 2 for 4, including a double, with one run scored and one RBI.
NIACC won the 3-game series against Ellsworth. The two teams split a pair of contests in Iowa Falls on March 20 with the Panthers winning 4-3 and the Trojans prevailing 12-10.
NIACC (12-19 overall, 4-7 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday and Sunday with a 3-game series against No. 5 (NJCAA Division II) Iowa Central in Fort Dodge. The two teams will play a twinbill on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at the Harlan Rogers Sports Complex.
