POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - The NIACC baseball team split a non-league doubleheader Sunday with Three Rivers CC.
Three Rivers CC won the first game 5-3 and the Trojans took the second game by the identical score of 5-3. The Trojans won a single game Saturday against Three Rivers CC to win the series, 2-1.
In the second game Sunday, NIACC scored two runs in the first inning, a single run in the third inning and plated two runs in the sixth frame.
Freshman right-hander Ethen Roberts, who prepped at Mason City High, gained the win in relief by pitching scoreless fifth and sixth innings. Roberts (1-0) allowed one hit with one strikeout and no walks to pick up his first collegiate victory.
Redshirt freshman right-hander Cole Newell recorded the final two outs in the seventh inning to claim his first career save.
NIACC starter Zach Dohrmann allowed three runs (two earned) with two strikeouts and no walks in four innings of work.
NIACC's leadoff hitter Eli Anderson, a sophomore, was 3 for 4 and scored two runs in the second-game victory.
In the series, Anderson was 8 for 12 with one double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Anderson is hitting .586 with nine RBIs, seven runs scored, five doubles and three stolen bases.
Also in Sunday's second game, sophomore Will Couchman was 2 for 3, including a double, with one run scored and one RBI.
NIACC's Isaac Huettl, Caden Sammler and Payton Fort drove in one run apiece.
In the first game, Three Rivers CC scored two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. The Raiders plated an insurance run in the sixth inning.
NIACC scored a single run in the third inning and pushed across two runs in the seventh frame.
Anderson and Sam Kwapnioski each collected two hits.
Carson Munoz (1-1) took the loss on the mound for the Trojans. Munoz allowed four runs (three earned) with two strikeouts and one walk in two innings of work. John Lyman pitched the final four innings for the Trojans allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts and one walk.
NIACC (5-2) returns to action March 24-25 with a four-game series at Neosho County CC in Chanute, Kan.
