NIACC men fall to Kirkwood, 89-88
CEDAR RAPIDS - The No. 12 NIACC men's basketball team dropped a 89-88 decision to No. 14 Kirkwood Wednesday night in an ICCAC contest.
Kirkwood led 48-39 at the half and held on for the narrow one-point win.
Kirkwood improved to 16-4 overall and 6-1 in the ICCAC. NIACC fell to 17-4 overall and 4-3 in the league.
In Wednesday's game, NIACC was led by sophomore Wendell Matthews with 29 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Quentin Hardrict scored 22 points with nine assists and six rebounds.
Also for the Trojans, James Harris scored 15 points, Marshaun Carroll scored 10 points and Jaden Horton scored 10 points.
Kirkwood was led by sophomore Luke Appel with 27 points and 17 rebounds. Devonte Thedford scored 17 points and DJ Purnell scored 14 points.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at home against DMACC. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. in the NIACC gym.
