No. 6 NIACC men roll in opener, 118-74
IOWA FALLS - Last season, the NIACC men's basketball team scored at least 100 points in 14 games.
The 2019-20 Trojans looked like a similar version of the 2018-19 squad Friday by rolling to a 118-74 victrory over Hibbing CC on the opening day of the Dale Howard Classic on the Ellsworth campus.
The 118 points is the fourth most in the Mark Mohl era. The top three higest-scoring games in the Mohl era came in the 2018-19 season.
In Friday's win, sophomore Wendell Matthews scored 28 points to lead the Trojans. The 28 points is two off the career high for Matthews, who scored 30 points against Northeast CC on Nov. 30, 2018.
Sophomore Deundra Roberson scored 20 points as Mohl improved to 11-1 in season openers.
Also for NIACC, James Harris, Quentin Hardrict and Payton Breedlove all scored 12 points. Trey Sampson scored nine points.
NIACC returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday against Bryant & Stratton (Wis.) at the Dale Howard Classic.
