
Trojans claim regional title

IOWA FALLS - For the 11th time in school history, the NIACC women's basketball team has claimed a regional basketball championship.
NIACC topped Ellsworth 72-59 Monday night to win the NJCAA Region 11-B title. It is the first time since the 2019-20 season that the Trojans have won a regional championship.
NIACC (25-6) now faces North Platte CC at 4 p.m. Saturday in North Platte, Neb. in the NJCAA North Central A District Championship. The winner advances to the NJCAA Division II national tournament March 17-22 in Joplin, Mo.
North Platte CC (19-12) topped Southeast CC 66-33 in the NJCAA Region 9 title game on March 1.
NIACC's Tori Miller, Keeley Steele and Reggi Spotts were selected to the NJCAA Region 11-B all-tournament team with Miller being selected as the regional tournament MVP.
In Monday's regional title game, sophomore Karly Holm led the Trojans with a career-high 23 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Also for the Trojans, Steele scored 19 points with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Spotts scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Miller scored nine points with 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
NIACC, which dropped two regular season contests to Ellsworth, led 34-31 at the half. The Trojans outscored the Panthers 15-12 in the third quarter and 23-16 in the final quarter to win their first regional title in five seasons.
