
NIACC's Steele wins ICCAC weekly honor
MASON CITY - For the second time this season, NIACC sophomore guard Keeley Steele has been selected as the ICCAC women's basketball player of the week for the week of Feb. 10-16.
Steele, who is from Stewartville, Minn., also won the award for the week of Jan. 6-12.
Last week, Steele was instrumental in leading the Trojans to wins over Iowa Western and Iowa Central.
In the Trojans' 80-45 win over Iowa Western, Steele scored seven points with five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
In the Trojans' 79-49 win over Iowa Central, Steele recorded a double/double with 18 points and 11 steals, which is tied for second on the school's single-game steals list. She also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists as the Trojans won for the eighth time in their last 10 games.
It was Steele's fourth double/double of the season and fourth of her career. Steele also accumulated double/doubles with 16 points/11 rebounds against Southwestern CC (Dec. 11), 11/11 rebounds against Lake Region State College (Dec. 14) and 12 points/11 rebounds against Northeast CC (Jan. 25).
It is the eighth time this season that a NIACC women's basketball player has earned the ICCAC player of the week award. Other NIACC winners this season have been Tori Miller (Oct. 28-Nov. 3 and Jan. 20-26), Sonya Potthoff (Nov. 11-17), Alexis Schroeder (Nov. 18-24 and Dec. 2-8) and Reggi Spotts (Dec. 9-15).
NIACC (20-6 overall, 10-5 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at Marshalltown CC in an ICCAC contest. Game time in Marshalltown is set for 5:30 p.m. The Trojans wrap up their regular season at home against DMACC on Saturday and at Iowa Lakes on Feb. 26.
Notes: Steele has 519 career points (50th on school's career list), 78 career 3-point goals (21st on school's career list), 266 career rebounds (39th on school's career list), 155 career assists (21st on school's career list) and 108 steals (tied for 37th on school's career list).
