Trojans open season ranked 10th
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's basketball team is ranked 10th in the NJCAA Division II preseason poll released Monday.
NIACC, under fifth-year coach Brad Vaught, is one of four ICCAC teams ranked in the preseason poll. Kirkwood is ranked No. 1, Iowa Western is ranked No. 17 and DMACC is ranked No. 25.
The last time the NIACC women's basketball team was in the NJCAA Division Ii rankings was in the final poll of the 2019-20 season when the Trojans were ranked No. 1.
NIACC was 23-8 overall last season and 15-5 in the ICCAC.
The Trojans return five sophomores from last year's squad that advanced to the NJCAA Region 11-B title game. Returning for the Trojans are Alexis Schroeder, Karly Holm, Keeley Steele, Tori Miller and Sonya Potthoff.
Miller was a first-team all-region selection and Schroeder was a third-team all-region pick.
NIACC opens the regular season Nov. 1-2 at the annual Konigsmark Klassic. The Trojans host Wilbur Wright College at 6 p.m. on Nov. 1 and play Elgin CC at 3 p.m. on Nov. 2.
