Spotts powers Trojans past Reivers, 80-45

COUNCIL BLUFFS - Freshman Reggi Spotts scored a career-high 28 points with a career-best 14 rebounds and career-best eight steals to help lead the NIACC women's basketball team to a 80-45 victory over Iowa Western Thursday in an ICCAC contest.
Spotts, who prepped at Mason City High, was 9 of 14 from the field, including a 7 of 8 shooting display from 3-point range as the Trojans completed the regular season sweep of the Reivers for the first time in school history. It was Spotts' fourth double/double of the season.
It's the second time this season that a NIACC player has made seven 3-point goals in a contest. Freshman Kelsey McDonough drained seven 3-point goals against the Waldorf University Junior Varsity on Nov. 19.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Tori Miller scored 22 points with eight assists, three rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Karly Holm scored 17 points with five rebounds, two steals and one assist.
With Spotts' 28 points and Miller's 22 points, it is the fourth time this season that two NIACC women's basketball players scored at least 20 points in the same game.
NIACC led 17-12 after the first quarter and outscored the Reivers 29-16 in the second quarter to take a 46-28 lead at the half. The Trojans outscored the Reivers 34-17 in the second half to claim the 35-point road victory.
The 35-point victory over Iowa Western is the largest margin of victory in school history against the Reivers. The previous largest margin of victory was 26 points in a 89-63 victory in the 2019-20 season.
NIACC returns to action Sunday at home against Iowa Central. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 1 p.m.
