
NIACC falls to DMACC in regional title game
BOONE - The No. 20 NIACC softball team dropped an 8-2 decision to No. 9 DMACC in the NJCAA Region 11-B title game Monday afternoon on the DMACC campus.
DMACC (44-9) advances to the district tournament in Glendive, Mont. Friday and Saturday against Dawson CC (the NJCAA Region 13 champion). The winner of the 3-game series in the district tournament advances to the NJCAA Division II World Series May 20-25 in Spartanburg, S.C.
In Monday's regional title game, NIACC (33-23) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Trojans' Katy Olive led off the game with a home run and Madisyn Bauer plated Emily Jones with an RBI single.
DMACC responded by scoring four runs in its half of the first inning. The Bears also scored one run in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth frame.
DMACC's Courtney Donahue allowed five hits and struck out 15.
Olive was 2 for 3 for the Trojans. Jones, Bauer and Kaitlin Bear picked up the other three hits for the Trojans.
