MASON CITY - The NIACC softball team split an ICCAC doubleheader with No. 11 DMACC Sunday afternoon on the NIACC campus.
DMACC (30-8 overall, 13-3 in the ICCAC) won the first game 1-0 and the Trojans salvaged a split in the twinbill with a 12-8.
DMACC sits in second place in the league with its 13-3 mark. Kirkwood leads the league with a record of 15-1.
NIACC (23-17 overall) is tied for third in the league standings with Iowa Central with identical 12-4 marks.
In the second game, NIACC's Madisyn Bauer was 3 for 4, including a home run, with three RBIs. The Trojans' Katy Olive and Emily Jones both collected two hits.
Also, Vanessa Koehler, Ariana Lopez and Madi Elwood all drove in two runs.
Freshman right-hander Macy Kellar (12-4) gained the win in the circle for the Trojans. Kellar allowed one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore right-hander Brynn Stalberger tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief and didn't allow an earned run with four strikeouts.
In the first game, DMACC scored a single run in the first inning for the lone run of the contest.
Sunday's first game was the first 1-0 contest that the Trojans have played in since dropping a 1-0 decision to Ellsworth in the first game of a doubleheader on May 5, 2021.
NIACC returns to action at home Wednesday against Iowa Lakes in an ICCAC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
