BURLINGTON - The No. 14 (NJCAA Division II) NIACC softball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday at the Southeastern CC Turf Tournament.
NIACC (3-1 overall) topped State Fair CC 10-2 in five innings in its first game Saturday and then stopped host Southeastern CC 9-5 in its final game of the weekend.
In NIACC's win over State Fair CC, the Trojans scored single runs in the first and fifth innings and plated four runs each in the second and third frames.
NIACC sophomore leadoff hitter Katy Olive was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and stole four bases. It was the second time in her career that Olive stole four bases in a single game.
Olive, who has eight stolen bases this season, has 71 career stolen bases, which ranks third on the school's career list.
Also for the Trojans against State Fair CC, sophomore Brynnlin Kroymann was 3 for 3, including a double, with four RBIs. Freshman Madisyn Kelley was 3 for 3, including a double.
NIACC's Izzy Sloan (1-0) gained the win in the circle. Sloan, a freshman right-hander, held State Fair CC to two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and five walks in her first collegiate start.
Against Southeastern, freshman Macy Kellar, a freshman right-hander, improved her record to 2-0. Kellar scattered seven hits and allowed five runs (three earned) with seven strikeouts and two walks.
NIACC broke open the contest by scoring two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and the Trojans pushed across four runs in the seventh inning.
Kroymann was 3 for 3, including two doubles, scored two runs and drove in two runs. Olive, Emily Jones and Kelley all had two hits for the Trojans.
NIACC returns to action Friday with a pair of games in Fort Scott, Kan. The Trojans face Labette CC at 4 p.m. and Fort Scott CC at 6 p.m.
Notes: Kroymann is hitting .750 with six RBIs and five doubles ... Kelley is hitting .700 ... Olive is hitting .500.
