- Olive hits 4 homers in DH sweep
- Trojans improve to 3-1 in league play
HUDSON - The NIACC softball team moved its mark to 3-1 in the ICCAC with a doubleheader sweep of Hawkeye CC Saturday afternoon at the Hudson Athletic Complex.
NIACC (14-12 overall) won the first game 6-3 and took the second game 8-7 as sophomore Katy Olive hit two home runs in both games. Olive now is NIACC's all-time home run leader with 30.
She passed Laken Lienhard (2021-23), who now ranks second with 27 career home runs. Olive hit 14 home runs as a freshman in 2022 and has 16 home runs this season.
In the first game, freshman right-hander Izzy Sloan (3-1) gained the complete-game win. She tossed a 3-hitter, allowed three runs (two earned) with a career-best nine strikeouts.
Offensively for NIACC, Katy Olive was 2 for 4, including two home runs, with three RBIs. Madisyn Kelley was 3 for 3, including a double.
Also for the Trojans, Thea Mattson and Emily Jones both collected two hits.
In the second game, Olive hit two more home runs with three RBIs. Vanessa Koehler also homered for the Trojans and drove in three runs.
It is the fourth time this season that Olive has hit two home runs in a game and the fifth time in her career.
Jones and Kelley both had two hits.
Brynn Stalberger (1-2) gained the win in the circle for the Trojans. Sloan picked up the save.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday in an league twinbill at Ellsworth. The first game in Iowa Falls is slated for 2 p.m.
