MASON CITY - The NIACC softball team swept an ICCAC doubleheader from Northeast CC on Saturday in the Trojans' first two home games of the season.
NIACC (22-16 overall, 11-3 in the ICCAC) won the first game 19-0 in five innings and the Trojans took the second game 10-2 in six innings.
In the first game, freshman right-hander Izzy Sloan (7-2) tossed a five-hit shutout to gain the win in the circle for the Trojans. Sloan struck out six and walked two in five innings of work.
NIACC's Thea Mattson was 4 for 4 with three RBIs. Four other Trojans (Katy Olive, Emily Jones, Vanessa Koehler and Madi Elwood) collected two hits each. Madisyn Kelley and Jones both collected three RBIs.
In the second game, Olive, Sloan and Koehler all had multiple hits. Olive homered for the Trojans and Jones ended the game with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
The home run for Olive was the 20th of the season and 34th of her career.
Macy Kellar (11-4) picked up the win for the Trojans. Kellar, a freshman right-hander, allowed no runs on one hit in four innings of work with five strikeouts and two walks
NIACC's Brynn Stalberger pitched the final two innings in relief. She allowed two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
NIACC returns to action Sunday at home with a league twinbill against No. 11 DMACC. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m. on the NIACC campus.
