NIACC sweeps Ellsworth
- Trojans hit a total of 11 home runs in twinbill sweep
- Trojans return to action Saturday at Northeast CC
MARSHALLTOWN - The NIACC softball team swept an ICCAC doubleheader against Ellsworth on Thursday on the Marshalltown CC campus.
NIACC won the first game 29-0 and took the second game 28-3, both in five innings. The last time the Trojans scored at least 20 runs in a game was Feb. 25, 2023 in a 22-1 win over Morton College.
The twinbill was originally slated to be played in Iowa Falls but was moved to Marshalltown because of unplayable conditions.
In the first game, the Trojans scored a season-high 29 runs as they compiled 12 extra base hits, including six home runs. Madisyn Bauer and Vanessa Koehler both hit two home runs for the Trojans.
The Trojans' Izzy Sloan and Madisyn Kelley also homered. Kelley and Bauer both drove in five runs.
Sloan (4-1) gained the win in the circle by pitching a complete-game shutout.
In the second game, the Trojans pounded out 27 hits to score their 28 runs. A total of nine Trojans collected at least two hits and the Trojans hit five home runs to increase their total for the twinbill to 11.
NIACC's Katy Olive hit two home runs. Koehler, Kelley and Emily Jones also homered for the Trojans. Olive led the Trojans with six RBIs.
Sloan was 5 for 5 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Sloan was the first NIACC player to collect five hits in a game since Hailey Worman in the first game of a doubleheader against Ellsworth on March 21, 2022.
NIACC's Macy Kellar (9-3) gained the win in the circle. She struck allowed three hits and no earned runs with a total of 12 strikeouts.
NIACC (16-12 overall, 5-1 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday with a doubleheader against Northeast CC at Norfolk, Neb. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
