MASON CITY - The No. 19 NIACC softball team dropped an ICCAC doubleheader to No. 7 Kirkwood Saturday afternoon on the NIACC campus.
Kirkwood won the first game 6-3 and took the second game 2-0 to complete the league twinbill sweep.
Kirkwood improved its overall record to 43-11 overall and 24-2 in the ICCAC. The Eagles clinched at least a share of the league title heading into their regular season finale twinbill at Iowa Lakes on Monday.
NIACC is now 31-19 overall and 20-6 in league play. The Trojans sit in third place heading into their regular season finale at home against Iowa Central on Tuesday.
In the first game, NIACC received solo home runs from sophomores Madi Elwood and Katy Olive.
NIACC's Izzy Sloan (10-4) struck out eight while allowing six runs on nine hits.
Sophomore Emily Jones drove in the Trojans other run with a single in the first inning.
In the second game, Kirkwood received a two-run home run from Sydney Roe in the seventh inning.
NIACC's Macy Kellar (14-5) allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in seven innings of work.
The Trojans received singles from Olive and Izzy Sloan. Madisyn Kelley reached base three times by hit by pitch.
Saturday was sophomore day for the Trojans, who honored eight sophomores. Honored Saturday were Elwood, Jones, Kelley, Olive, Brynnlin Kroymann, Brynn Stalberger and managers Leah Martinez and Brooke Roby.
NIACC returns to action Monday in an ICCAC doubleheader against Iowa Central in Fort Dodge. The first game is slated to start at 4 p.m. at Harlan Rogers Park.
