Trojans push winning streak to 7
- Elwood plates 7 in opener against Northeast CC
- Kelley hit grand slam in second game
NORFOLK, Neb. - The NIACC softball team moved its season-long win streak to seven games with a pair of wins Saturday against Northeast CC.
NIACC (18-12 overall, 7-1 in the ICCAC) routed Northeast CC 21-4 in five innings in the opener and completed the sweep with a 14-1, five-inning victory in the second game.
In the 21-4 win in the first game, it was the third straight game that the Trojans scored at least 20 runs. On Thursday, the Trojans swept Ellsworth 29-0 and 28-3.
NIACC sophomore Madi Elwood was 5 for 5 with seven RBIs. It is the first time a NIACC player had seven RBIs in game since Courtney Johannes plated seven against Southeast CC in first game of a twinbill on March 9, 2018.
It was the second time this week that a NIACC player was 5 for 5 at the plate. The Trojans' Izzy Sloan was 5 for 5 in the second game against Ellsworth on Thursday.
NIACC's Madisyn Kelley hit two home runs. Emily Jones and Thea Mattson also homered for the Trojans.
Brynn Stalberger (2-2) gained the win in the circle for the Trojans allowingfour runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
In the second game, Kelley provided the big hit of the game for the Trojans with a grand slam.
Sloan (5-1) tossed a three-hitter for the Trojans. She didn't allow an earned run and struck out eight.
NIACC returns to action Monday at No. 9 (NJCAA Division II) DMACC in an ICCAC twinbill. The first game is slated to start at 2 p.m.
