MASON CITY - The NIACC softball team moved its winning streak to seven games with a Sunday doubleheader sweep over Ellsworth on the NIACC campus.
NIACC (29-17 overall, 18-4 in the ICCAC) won the first game 18-0 in five innings and completed the sweep with a 13-3 five-inning win in the second game.
In the seven-game win streak, the Trojans have outscored their opponent 75-23. The win streak includes one win over DMACC and twinbill sweeps over Iowa Lakes, Iowa Central and Ellsworth.
In Sunday's first game, freshman right-hander Izzy Sloan (9-3) tossed a two-hit shutout and she matched her career high with 10 strikeouts.
NIACC broke open the opener with seven runs in the first inning. Katy Olive drove in two runs and scored a run in the frame. Sloan and Madi Elwood both drove in runs with singles in the frame.
The Trojans also scored 10 runs in the fourth inning.
Olive was 3 for 4, including a double, with four RBIs. Madisyn Bauer was 2 for 3, including a home run, with four RBIs.
Also for the Trojans, Emily Jones was 3 for 4, including a double. Sloan was 3 for 4, including a double, with two RBIs and Elwood was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.
In the second game, sophomore right-hander Brynn Stalberger (5-3) allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks in five innings of work.
The big inning for the Trojans was the third frame when they pushed across six runs. The Trojans also scored two runs in the first two innings and plated three runs in the fourth inning.
Jones and Bauer both homered and drove in three runs to lead the NIACC offensive attack.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home against Hawkeye CC in an ICCAC twinbill. The first game on the NIACC campus is slated for 2 p.m.
