KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The NIACC softball team split a non-league doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
NIACC (11-11) won the opener 14-2 and Kansas City CC took the second game 8-5.
In the first game, NIACC freshman right-hander Macy Kellar (7-3) struck out eight while allowing two earned runs on six hits.
Offensively, NIACC was led by sophomore leadoff hitter Katy Olive, who was 4 for 5, including two home runs and a triple, with five RBIs. It is the third time this season Olive has collected five RBIs in a game and second time this season that she has homered twice.
Olive now has 24 career home runs, which is tied for second on the school's career list with Kaci Sherwood (2018-19). She also collected seven hits in the doubleheader and now has 100 career hits becoming the 15th member of the school's 100 hit club.
Olive is the first player to join the 100-hit club since Laken Lienhard, who collected 133 hits from 2021-23, which ranks second on the school's career hit list.
Also for the Trojans in the opener, Thea Mattson was 2 for 3, including a home run and a double, with a season-best four RBIs. Madisyn Kelley was 2 for 5, including a home run, with two RBIs.
The 14 runs by the Trojans was a season high. The previous season high came in an 11-10 win over Indian Hills on March 1.
In the second game, Oliver, Kelley and Madisyn Bauer all had two hits. Bauer and Mattson both homered.
NIACC returns to action Thursday with a non-conference doubleheader at Indian Hills. The first game in Ottumwa is slated for 1 p.m.
