FORT SCOTT, Kan. - The winning streak has reached six.
The No. 17 NIACC softball team won its fifth and sixth straight games with a doubleheader sweep of Fort Scott CC on Friday.
NIACC (13-9 overall) won the first game 7-3 and took the second game 8-1 in six innings.
In the opener, NIACC's Izzy Sloan (5-3) gained the complete-game win in the circle. The sophomore right-hander didn't allow an earned run while tossing a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and five walks.
Leadoff hitter Makayla Wirkus led the NIACC offense by going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Camryn Dilla also had three hits for the Trojans.
NIACC's Mya Bunkers was 2 for 3, including a double, with two RBIs and one run scored. Ella Trenkamp also had two hits for the Trojans and Katie Riesselman hit her third home run of the season.
In the second game, Macy Kellar (4-3) gained the win tossing a two-hitter for the Trojans. Kellar didn't allow an earned run with three strikeouts and no walks.
Trenkamp was 3 for 4, including a double, and scored three runs to lead the NIACC offense. Thea Mattson collected three hits and Kaitlin Blair had a double and drove in three runs.
Dilla was 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored.
NIACC wraps up its spring break trip Saturday with a doubleheader against Kansas City (Kan.) CC. The first game in Kansas City, Kan. is slated for 1 p.m.
NIACC is scheduled to open its home season on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Iowa Western. The first game on the NIACC campus is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
