
Trojans sweep Labette CC

PARSONS, Kan. - The No. 17 NIACC softball team pushed its winning streak to four games with a doubleheader sweep of Labette CC on Wednesday.
NIACC (11-9) won the first game 9-0 in five innings as sophomore right-hander Macy Kellar (3-3) tossed a complete-game 3-hit shutout. The Trojans won the second game 11-8 by scoring four runs in the seventh inning.
In the first game, Kellar picked up her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career. Kellar struck out five and did not walk a batter in her five innings of work.
It was the Trojans' first shutout since Kellar blanked Hawkeye CC 8-0 in the second game of a twinbill on April 24, 2024.
NIACC scored four runs in the first inning and plated five runs in the third inning. Mya Bunkers, who was the ICCAC player of the week for the week of March 3-9, homered and drove in four runs and Ella Trenkamp homered and drove in three runs to power the Trojan offense.
NIACC leadoff hitter Makayla Wirkus was 3 for 4, scored two runs and drove in a run. Ally Wall and Katie Riesselman both had two hits for the Trojans.
In the second game, NIACC, which trailed 11-7 heading into the seventh inning, scored four runs in its last at-bat to take an 11-8 lead. Kellar pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up her second save of the season.
Sophomore right-hander Izzy Sloan (4-3) gained the win for the Trojans in relief. She allowed two runs in three innings in relief of starter Maren Sauvageau.
NIACC pounded out a season-high 18 hits to score its 11 runs. Riesselman was 4 for 5, including a double, with four RBIs. Wirkus, Wall, Trenkamp and Thea Mattson all had three hits for the Trojans.
NIACC had five doubles in Wednesday's second game, including two from Trenkamp.
The Trojans return to action Friday with a doubleheader against Fort Scott CC. The twinbill in Fort Scott, Kan. is slated to start at 11 a.m.
