PERKINSTON, Miss. - The No. 16 NIACC softball team dropped a twinbill to No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast CC on Friday.
Mississippi Gulf Coast CC won the opener 5-2 and took the second game 2-1 in nine innings.
In the first game, the Bulldogs scored a single run in the second inning and plated four runs in the second inning. NIACC scored single runs in the first and third innings.
NIACC freshman Mya Bunkers was 2 for 3, including a double and home run, with one RBI. Freshman Katie Riesselman drove in the Trojans' other run.
In the second game, the Trojans scored a single run in the sixth inning on a double by Bunkers. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning and won the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth frame.
Sophomore Camryn Dilla collected two of the Trojans' three hits.
NIACC sophomore right-hander Macy Kellar allowed one run in seven innings of work with five strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore right-hander Izzy Sloan (1-1) relieved Kellar in the eighth inning and allowed one run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings of work.
NIACC (3-3 overall) returns to action Saturday in a doubleheader against No. 15 Pearl River CC in Poplarville, Miss. The first game is slated to start at noon.
Notes: Bunkers is hitting .591 (13 for 22) with 5 doubles, 5 home runs and 17 RBIs ... Dilla is hitting .467 (7 for 15) with 5 RBIs ... Kellar (1-1) has 13 strikeouts and 4 walks in 17 innings pitched ... Kellar has 159 career strikeouts, which ranks 8th on the school's career strikeout list.
