OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The No. 17 NIACC softball team picked up a pair of wins on Friday.
NIACC (5-7 overall) topped Kansas City (Kan.) CC 8-6 and downed McCook CC 11-8.
In the win over KCKCC, NIACC pounded out 11 hits, including five for extra bases, to score its 11 runs. The Trojans' Thea Mattson was 2 for 4, including a double and home run, with one RBI and two runs scored.
NIACC's Makayla Wirkus was 2 for 3, including a home run, with two RBIs and three runs scored.
NIACC's Ella Trenkmamp and Mya Bunkers both had two hits. One of Trenkamp's hits was a double.
In the win over McCook County CC, the Trojans scored five runs in the sixth inning to claim the 2-run victory.
The Trojans, who had 12 hits, hit three home runs and collected two doubles. Wirkus, Bunkers and Ally Wall hit home runs and Katie Riesselman and Trenkamp had doubles.
Wirkus, Bunkers, Trenkamp and Izzy Sloan all had two hits for the Trojans. Wirkus and Bunkers both drove in three runs.
Ella Brooks picked up the win in relief for the Trojans and Maren Sauvageau gained the save by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
NIACC returns to action Saturday with a pair of games against Johnson County CC and McCook CC
