HUDSON - The No. 15 NIACC softball team picked up an ICCAC doubleheader sweep of Hawkeye CC Saturday afternoon.
NIACC (22-10 overall, 7-1 in the ICCAC) won both games 10-0. In the second game, NIACC sophomore right-hander Macy Kellar (8-4) tossed a no-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks in the five-inning victory.
It is the second straight season that the Trojans have shutout the Redtails in a league twinbill. Last season, the Trojans blanked Hawkeye CC 10-0 and 8-0 at home on April 24, 2024.
it was the first no-hitter for the NIACC softball program since Laken Lienhard tossed a no-hitter in a 8-0 win over Northeast CC in the second game of a doubleheader on April 6, 2023. Lienhard struck out six and walked two in the six-inning victory.
It was Kellar's third shutout of the season and sixth of her career.
Ally Wall powered the NIACC offense with a grand slam. Mya Bunkers collected three hits and drove in three runs, Camryn Dillas was 2 for 2, including a double, with two RBIs, Katie Riesselman was 2 for 2 and Thea Mattson was 2 for 3.
In the first game, sophomore right-hander Izzy Sloan (10-3) tossed a 3-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and one walk. It was Sloan's second shutout of the season and sixth of her career.
Bunkers was 4 for 4, including a home run, with three RBIs. Riesselman was 3 for 4 and Sloan and Elle Trenkamp both drove in two runs.
NIACC returns to action Sunday in an ICCAC twinbill at No. 12 Kirkwood. The first game is slated to start at 2 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
