ELLISVILLE, Miss. - The No. 16 NIACC softball team dropped a pair of contests to top-ranked Jones College on Sunday.
Jones College (20-3) won the opener 11-3 in six innings and claimed the second game 5-4 in 10 innings.
In the first game, Jones College scored at least one run in each of its six at-bats, including three each in the third and fourth innings. NIACC (3-7) scored a single run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning.
NIACC freshman Mya Bunkers was 2 for 3, including a home run. Sophomore Thea Mattson was 2 for 2, including two doubles, and sophomore Camryn Dilla was 2 for 3.
In the second game, NIACC trailed 4-1 after six innings, but the Trojans tied the contest at 4-4 with three runs in the top of the seventh frame. The Bobcats won the game with a single run in the bottom of the 10th inning.
The Trojans received a solo home run from Bunkers, who leads the team with eight home runs. The Trojans' freshman Ella Trenkamp was 3 for 5, including a double, with two RBIs.
NIACC's Izzy Sloan struck out nine and walked six in 9 1/3 innings of work. The nine strikeouts by Sloan was one of her career high of 10.
NIACC returns to action Friday with a pair of games against Kansas City (Kan.) CC and McCook CC. The Trojans face Kansas City (Kan.) CC at 10 a.m. in Kansas City, Kan. and face McCook CC at 2 p.m. in Overland Park, Kan.
