OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The No. 17 NIACC softball team split a pair of non-conference contests on Saturday.
The Trojans dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 18 Johnson County CC and topped McCook CC 17-7.
In the loss to Johnson County CC, the Cavaliers scored two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the second, third and sixth innings.
NIACC collected eight hits but only managed to score one run in the fourth frame on a home run from Mya Bunkers, who collected two hits. Ella Trenkamp also had two hits for the Trojans.
In the 10-run win over McCook County CC, the Trojans scored 11 of their 17 runs in the final two innings - five in the sixth inning and six in the seventh inning.
NIACC pounded out 17 hits to score its 17 runs. Makayla Wirkus and Ally Wall powered the Trojans' offense with both collecting three hits and driving in five runs.
The last time a NIACC player drove in five runs in a game was Madisyn Kelley against Iowa Lakes in the second game of a doubleheader on April 10, 2024.
Wall hit two home runs and also had a triple. Wirkus and Bunkers also both homered for the Trojans.
The last time a NIACC player hit two home runs in a game was Kelley against Iowa Lakes in the NJCAA Region 11-B tournament o May 5, 2024.
Maren Sauvageau (2-1) gained the win in relief for the Trojans. She allowed one run on one hit with three strikeouts and one walk in four innings of work.
