POPLARVILLE, Miss. - The No. 16 NIACC softball team dropped a twinbill to No. 12 Pear River CC on Saturday.
Pear River CC (12-7) won the opener 3-0 and took the second game 5-4.
In the first game, the Wildcats' Gracey Harbour tossed a 2-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and one walk. Kaitlin Blair and Camryn Dilla both had singles for the Trojans.
Pear River CC scored two runs in the first inning and plated a single run in the fourth frame.
Sophomore right-hander Izzy Sloan (1-2) took the loss for the Trojans. She allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks in four innings of work.
In the second game, NIACC took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the third inning with a 3-run home run from Mya Bunkers.
The Wildcats scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Trojans tied the game with a single run in their half of the seventh inning and the Wildcats completed the sweep with a run in their half of the seventh frame.
Pearl River CC's Ana-Grace Garcia held the Trojans to two hits. Ella Trenkamp picked up the other hit with a single for the Trojans. Garcia struck out 10 and walked three in seven innings of work.
NIACC starter Maren Sauvageau allowed nine hits, four runs (three earned) in her 5 1/3 innings of work. Macy Kellar (1-2) relieved Sauvageau in the sixth inning and took the loss allowing two hits and one run.
NIACC (3-5) returns to action Sunday at top-ranked Jones College in Ellisville, Miss.
