NORFOLK, Neb. - Sophomore Laken Lienhard tossed her first career no-hitter to help lead No. 20 NIACC to a 8-0 six-inning victory over Northeast CC in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.
Lienhard struck out five and walked two as she improved her record to 13-2 in the 2023 season. It was Lienhard's sixth shutout of the season and eighth of her career.
It was the second no-hitter of the season for the Trojans as Emily Jones tossed a no-hitter in a 19-1 win over College of Lake County on March 26.
NIACC, which has won nine straight games, swept the doubleheader Saturday against Northeast CC as the Trojans won the first game 10-1 in six innings. The Trojans swept the four-game ICCAC series against the Hawks and improved their overall record to 26-8 overall and 10-2 in the conference.
Also in the second game, NIACC's Katy Olive was 2 for 3, including a home run, with two RBIs. Lienhard was 3 for 4, including two doubles, with an RBI, Brynnlin Kroymann was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Jones was 2 for 4, including a double with two RBIs.
In the first game, Brynn Stalberger (8-4) scattered five hits, allowed one earned run and struck out eight.
At the plate, Kroymann was 3 for 4, Lienhard was 2 for 3, including two doubles, with one RBI, Brianna McPoland was 2 for 2 and Sydney Toman hit a home run and drove in three runs.
NIACC returns to action April 14-15 in a four-game home series against Ellsworth.
