ABERDEEN, S.D. – The NIACC softball team opened the season with a pair of wins Saturday in the Presentation College Dome.
NIACC topped NDSCS 5-2 and also picked up a 11-2 five-inning victory over Lake Region State College.
In the game against NDSCS, sophomore Laken Lienhard, who missed the entire 2022 season with a thumb injury, gained the win. She struck out eight, walked two and allowed two runs in seven innings of work.
Lienhard's eight strikeouts give her 164 for her career, which ranks sixth on the school's career strikeout list.
Lienhard also hit her 15th career home run, which ranks sixth on NIACC's career home run list.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Ravyn Krachey was 2 for 4 with a double and one RBI. Emily Jones was 1 for 1 with two RBIs.
Against Lake Region State College, freshman Brynn Stalberger gained the win for the Trojans. Stalberger allowed two hits and no earned runs with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.
Sophomore Brianna McPoland was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs. Taya Tucker had a double and three RBI.
Also, Brynnlin Kroymann, Katy Olive, Krachey and Molly McGuire all drove in runs for the Trojans.
NIACC returns to action Sunday against NDSCS and Lake Region State College.
