BOONE - The NIACC softball team split a pair of ICCAC contests Friday with No. 3 (NJCAA Division II) DMACC,
NIACC (17-7 overall, 1-1 in the ICCAC) claimed the second game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off DMACC 6-5 in the second game. DMACC won the opener 10-4.
In the second game, NIACC, which was the designated home team, trailed 5-2 heading into its last at-bat.
The Trojans tied the contest on a two-RBI double by Sydney Toman. Taya Tucker plated Toman with the winning run with a two-out single to right field.
It was the first win for the NIACC softball team over DMACC since the 2019 season when the Trojans topped the Bears 10-6 in the second game of a doubleheader on April 28, 2019 in Boone.
Emily Jones (5-1) gained the win in relief for the Trojans allowing one earned run on two hits in two innings of work.
Also for the Trojans, Laken Lienhard was 2 for 4, Jones was 3 for 4, Brianna McPoland was 3 for 4 and Ravyn Krachey was 2 for 3.
In the first game, DMACC (20-4, 5-1) scored seven runs in the fourth inning to take control of the contest.
Jones and Ravyn Krachey both homered for the Trojans.
The two teams wrap up their four-game series Saturday in Boone with another twinbill. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
