Trojans set for national tournament
COUNCIL BLUFFS - No. 12 NIACC will have 10 wrestlers competing at the NJCAA Division I National Championships Friday and Saturday at the Mid-America Center.
NIACC's 10 wrestlers will be Luis Acevedo (125), Alejandro Rodriguez (133), McKenley Charelus (141), Cordell White (149), Hansel Pompa (157), Emmanuel Celestin (165), Jonathan Krogman (174), Jessey Colas (184), Macray Klohs (197) and Xander Kenworthy (285).
The tournament begins with first round matches at 9 a.m. on Friday.
NIACC enters the national tournament with five ranked wrestlers. Acevedo is ranked eighth at 125 pounds, White, a returning all-American, is ranked fifth at 149 pounds, Celestin is ranked ninth at 165 pounds, Colas is ranked fifth at 184 pounds and Klohs is ranked eigth at 197 pounds.
NIACC placed fourth at the district tournament with 103.5 points on Feb. 16 in Council Bluffs. No. 2 Indian Hills was the district champion with 154.5 points.
