NIACC's White, Colas win titles at Luther Hill Invite
INDIANOLA – The NIACC men's wrestling team crowned two champions Saturday in the freshman/sophomore division at the Luther Hill Invitational at Simpson College.
NIACC's Cordell White claimed the 149-pound title and Jessey Colas was the 184-pound champion.
White, a sophomore, rolled to his championship by winning five matches, including one by fall and three by technical fall. White topped Steven Barnes of Concordia (Neb.) by technical fall, 17-2, in the title match.
White moved to the finals with a 4-1 victory over Indian Hills' Shehab Emam Mohamed in the semifinals.
White, who placed third at 149 pounds at the 2024 NJCAA national tournament, improved his overall collegiate record to 20-4 with 11 falls, four technical falls and one major decision.
Colas, a sophomore, also won five matches on his way to the 184-pound championship. Colas won two matches by technical fall and one by major decision.
Colas edged Southeast CC's Isaac White 4-2 in the championship match.
Colas moved his career mark to 21-4 with one fall, six technical falls and one major decision.
Also Saturday, NIACC's Hansel Pompa placed second in the freshman/sophomore division at 157 pounds. Pompa dropped a 13-10 decision to Lincoln Vick, who was competing unattached, in the title match.
Pompa, a sophomore, moved to the finals with a 6-3 victory over Southeast CC's Colin Menold in the semifinals.
NIACC's Talan Weber placed sixth at 165 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division.
The Trojans' Macray Klohs was sixth at 197 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division and Triston White was sixth at 285 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division.
NIACC returns to action Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Luther College Open in Decorah. The Trojans open their dual meet season at home on Nov. 13 against Indian Hills.
