3 Trojans place 2nd at Coe College Invite
CEDAR RAPIDS - The NIACC men's wrestling team picked up three second-place finishes Saturday at the Coe College Invitational.
Earning second-place finishes for the Trojans were Hansel Pompa at 157 pounds, Jessey Colas at 184 pounds and Macray Klohs at 197 pounds.
Also for the Trojans, Emmanuel Celestin placed third at 165 pounds, Xander Kenworthy was fourth at 285 pounds and Triston White was eighth at 285 pounds.
At 157 pounds, Coe's Ty Koedam edged Pompa 12-11 in the title match.
Pompa (7-3) advanced to the final with a pair of technical fall victories over Hawkeye CC's Jackson Turner by score of 20-4 and Grand View's Nicholas Perez by score of 22-7. Three of Pompa's seven victories this season have been by technical fall.
At 184 pounds, Coe's Jared Voss nipped Colas 7-6 in the title match hading Colas his first loss of the season.
Colas (9-1) moved to the finals with a 7-5 win over Coe's Austin Gomez and a :15 pin of Coe's Dax Clatt. Colas now has a career mark of 25-5.
At 197 pounds, Coe's Mathieu Arsenault topped Klohs 4-1 in the title match.
Klohs (7-3) advanced to the finals with a fall and two decisions. Klohs pinned Coe's Nolen Yeary in 1:03 in his first round match for his second career fall. Klohs topped Millikin's Ruben Silvas 4-3 in the quarterfinals and topped Minnesota State's Brian Thilges 12-5 in the semifinals.
NIACC returns to action Dec. 4 in a dual meet at Minnesota West CTC in Worthington, Minn. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
