
Trojans crown 3 champs
MASON CITY - The No. 11 NIACC men's wrestling team crowned three champions and placed second at the Battle for the Helmet Saturday in the NIACC recreation center.
No. 12 Southeast CC was the team champion with 175.5 points. NIACC was second with 114 points and Harper College was third with 98.5 points.
Winning individual titles for the Trojans were sophomore Emmanuel Celestin (165), ninth-ranked freshman Macray Klohs (197) and sophomore Xander Kenworthy (285). The Trojans' Jessey Colas (184) placed third, Cordell White (149) placed fourth and Talan Weber (165) was fourth.
Celestin, who is from Cooper City, Fla., won the 165-pound title with a 18-8 major decision over St. Ambrose University's Jayden Terronez. Celestin moved to the finals with a 14-4 major decision over Lakeland University's Evan Haferkorn
Celestin (8-6) opened the tournament with a 19-4 technical fall over Ellsworth's Nicholas Fischer.
Klohs, who is from Buffalo, Minn., edged Southeast CC's fifth-ranked Corey Hyatt 8-5 in the 197-pound title bout. Klohs pinned Harper College's Manny Mejia in two minutes, 47 seconds in his semifinal contest.
Klohs (11-3) opened his tournament with a 18-1 technical fall over Hawkeye CC's Isaac Ericson.
Kenworthy, who is from Ankeny, won his title by medical forfeit over Hawkeye CC's Joshua Vis. Kenworthy moved to the finals by injury default (5:19) over Southeast CC's Miguel Perez Diaz.
Kenworthy (11-8) pinned Harper College's Oleg Simakov in :55 in the quarterfinals and pinned St. Ambrose's Tyler Casey in :19 in his first-round contest.
In the 184-pound final, Southeast CC's sixth-ranked Isaac White topped the third-ranked Colas, 5-0.
Colas (13-2) moved to the finals with a 2:09 fall over Iowa Western's Tanner Fuller. Colas won his first two matches Saturday by major decision over Southeast CC's Braxton Jana (13-0) and Lakeland University's Jax Lipnitz (12-2).
NIACC returns to action Thursday in a dual meet at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn.
