
NIACC men's wrestling team sends 10 to nationals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC men's wrestling team will send 10 wrestlers to the NJCAA Division I National Championships March 7-8.
Earning national qualifying berths at the NJCAA North Central District tournament last Sunday for the Trojans were Luis Acevedo (125), Alejandro Rodriguez (133), McKenley Charelus (141), Cordell White (149), Hansel Pompa (157), Emmanuel Celestin (165), Jonathan Krogman (174), Jessey Colas (184), Macray Klohs (197) and Xander Kenworthy (285).
NIACC placed fourth at the district tournament with 103.5 points. Indian Hills was the district champion with 154.5 points.
Celestin, who is ranked ninth, placed second at 165 pounds at the district tournament. Celestin dropped a 12-5 decision to Iowa Central's Kaden King in the title match.
Acevedo, who is ranked eighth, placed third at 125 pounds. Acevedo picked up a 15-0 technical fall over Iowa Lakes' Dominic Chimeno in the third-place match.
Colas, who is ranked fifth, placed third at 184 pounds. Colas picked up a 17-0 technical fall over Iowa Lakes' Etheend Deyampert in the third-place match.
Klohs, who is ranked eighth, placed third at 197 pounds. Klohs gained a 18-3 technical fall over Iowa Western's Kolby Scott in the third-place match.
Also for the Trojans at the district tournament, Pompa was fourth at 157 pounds. Rodriguez, Charelus and Kenworthy placed fifth and White and Krogman were sixth.
The Trojans will compete in the NJCAA Division I national tournament on March 7-8 in Council Bluffs.
