
NIACC set to host Battle for the Helmet
MASON CITY - The No. 11 NIACC men's wrestling team hosts the Battle for the Helmet Saturday in the NIACC recreation center.
The nine-team tournament starts at 9 a.m.
Teams entered in the tournament are NIACC, Bryant & Stratton, Ellsworth, Harper College, No. 20 Hawkeye CC, No. 17 Iowa Western, Lakeland University, No. 12 Southeast CC and St. Ambrose University.
For the Trojans, Cordell White is ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds, Jessey Colas is ranked third at 184 pounds and Macray Klohs is ninth at 197 pounds.
White, a sophomore from Homestead, Fla., is 8-0 with two falls and two technical falls. White, who placed third at last year's national tournament at 149 pounds, has a career record of 23-4 with 12 falls, four technical falls and one major decision.
Colas, a sophomore from Bradenton, Fla., is 10-1 this season with 1 fall, four technical falls and two major decision. Colas, a national qualifier a year ago, has a career mark of 26-5 with two falls, eight technical falls and two major decisions.
Klohs, a freshman from Buffalo, Minn., is 8-3 this season with four falls, one technical fall and one major decision.
Several other rated wrestlers will compete on Saturday, including four wrestlers from Southeast CC, two from Iowa Western, two from Hawkeye CC and one from Harper College.
Rated wrestlers for Southeast CC will be Ely Olberding (seventh at 141 pounds), Trevor Reinke (eighth at 149 pounds), Isaac White (sixth at 184 pounds) and Corey Hyatt (fifth at 197 pounds).
Rated wrestlers for the Reivers will be Braxton Preacher (10th at 149 pounds) and Matteo Nikolov (9th at 174 pounds).
Hawkeye's Isaiah Kellow is ranked ninth at 184 pounds and Josh Vis is ranked seventh at 285 pounds.
Harper College's Ali Adel is ranked eighth at 184 pounds.
