NIACC's national champions
The NIACC wrestling program has crowned 16 individual NJCAA national champions. The Trojans are 16-7 in national title matches.
The following is a list of the Trojans' national champions:
1970
Joe Hatchett (190) topped Bob Backlund (Waldorf College) in the title bout.
1971
Joe Hatchett (190) topped Al Sye (Glouchester, N.J.) in the title bout.
1972
Tom Garcia (134) topped Gary Wilson (Genesee CC, N.Y.) in the title bout.
1973
Bob Fouts (heavyweight) topped Willard Bryant (Glouchester, N.J.) 9-7 in the title bout.
2008
Albert White (149) - White (31-3) topped TJ Hepburn (Colby CC) 3-2 in the title bout.
DaVaughn Perkins (157) - Perkins (39-5) topped Marshall Giovanni (Highline CC) 9-8 in the title bout.
Glenn Rhees (174) - Rhees (26-3) topped Jason Green (Neosho County CC) 7-3 in the title bout.
2014
Nosomy Pozo (149) - Pozo (25-3) took a 18-6 major decision from Zack Dobbins (NEO A&M) in the title bout.
Yoanse Mejias (157) - Mejias (36-2) topped Richie Lewis (Iowa Central) 7-3 in the title bout.
2015
Nosomy Pozo (149) - Pozo (31-6) pinned Oscar Ramirez (Iowa Western) in 6:44 in the title bout. Pozo compiled a career record of 56-9.
Yoanse Mejias (157) - Mejias (34-4) topped Eleazor DeLuca (Clackamas) 4-3 in the title bout. Mejias compiled a career record of 69-6.
2016
Shiquan Hall (133) - Hall (15-4) topped Zak Hensley (Iowa Central) 5-3 in overtime in the title bout. Hall was 15-4 in his sophomore season. Hall, who compiled a career record of 45-14, earned all-American honors as a freshman with his fourth-place finish at 133 pounds.
2018
Austin Anderly (141) - Anderly (14-2) topped Lincoln’s Christian Kanzler (Lincoln) 3-2 in the title bout. Anderly was 14-2 in his sophomore season with 3 pins and 4 major decisions. Anderly, who had a career record of 28-9, also earned all-American honors with a 5th-place finish in 2017.
2021
Christian Minto (165) - Minto topped Iowa Central's Keaton Geerts 13-6 in the title bout. Minto was 13-0 in his sophomore season with 1 pin, 4 technical falls and 4 major decisons. Minto has a career record of 35-1. Minto was the runner-up at 165 pounds in 2020.
2022
Christian Minto (165) - Minto topped Clackamas' Steele Starren by major decision 14-5 in the title bout. Minto was 16-0 with 4 pins, 1 technical fall and 3 major decisions in the 2021-22 season. Minto compiled a career record at NIACC of 51-1.
Jose Valdez (197) - Valdez edged Iowa Lakes' Massoma Endene 6-4 in the first extra session. Valdez was 17-0 with 1 pin, 3 technical falls and 4 major decisions. Valdez compiled a record of 37-6 at NIACC.
