
NIACC sweeps Southwestern CC, 3-0
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team swept Southwestern CC 3-0 in an ICCAC match Wednesday night in the NIACC gym on cancer awareness night.
NIACC won 25-10, 33-31, 25-8.
"First, we want to say thank you to everyone who attend our Unite & Fight match - it was an amazing crowd for the event," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We also want to thank everyone who donated their time, talents, items and made purchases toward this event. We are thankful for the generosity of so many wonderful people in our community."
In Wednesday's match, NIACC freshman Megan Tobin had 12 kills, three digs and three blocks. Emma Miller had seven kills, three digs and three blocks and Alicia Machacek had six kills and three blocks.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Emily Opstvedt had 14 assists, seven digs and one ace serve. Freshman Kenedee Frayne had 12 assists and five digs.
NIACc's Kinsey Anderson had 13 digs, four assists and one ace serve. Addison Tabbert had two kills, two digs and two ace serves, Ellie Hanna had four blocks and three kills.
The Trojans' Kit Byars had five blocks and three kills and Alana Burton had three kills, two digs and two blocks.
"The team has worked hard to better their hitting efficiency and it has been a main focus for a while now," Brandt said. "We are excited to see that goal come together (Wednesday) along with many solid blocks for our defense."
NIACC (11-16 overall, 3-4 in the ICCAC) returns to action Tuesday in an ICCAC contest at Iowa Lakes.
