Munger joins NIACC volleyball coaching staff
MASON CITY - Mattison Munger begins her first season as an assistant coach with the NIACC volleyball team in the 2024 season.
Munger joins Andie Olson, who is an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator, as new members of the NIACC volleyball coaching staff, which is led by head coach Chris Brandt.
Munger, who was a setter at South Dakota State University from 2015-18, is also a physical therapist at Athletico Physical Therapy in Mason City.
"I have loved volleyball as long as I can remember and I have played since I was five," Munger said. "I always knew the next step for me was to step into a coaching role in some form to impart some of the wisdom that was provided to me by great coaches."
At South Dakota State, Munger was selected to The Summit League all-freshman team in 2015. She was also selected as a distinguished scholar on The Summit League Academic Honor Roll in 2015.
Munger was a three-time Summit League academic honor roll in 2015, 2017 and 2018. She was also a three-time member of the Summit League Commissioner's list of academic excellence (2015, 2017, 2018).
Munger finished her career at SDSU ranked ninth in career set assists with 2,169.
"As a previous collegiate volleyball player and setter, I can assist Coach Brandt with adding skills session to work one-on-one with setters/DS group," Munger said. "Not being far removed from my own student-athlete experience will allow me to connect and influence these athletes in a positive way and to provide my own unique perspective."
Also at SDSU, Munger was the Exercise Science student of the year in 2019.
Munger said she is looking forward to her first coaching experience.
"However, I have been in numerous positions of leadership on and off the court that has contributed to leadership skills and creating a positive atmosphere," she said.
