NIACC drops pair at Heartland CC Tournament

NORMAL, Ill. - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to top 10 (NJCAA Division II) opponents Saturday at the Heartland CC Tournament.

The Trojans fell 3-0 to No. 7 Heartland CC, which won 25-14, 25-13, 25-11. No. 3 Parkland College stopped the Trojans 3-0, winning 25-12, 25-20, 25-17.

"We are so proud of how our team handled all the challenges thrown at them this weekend," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We entered this tournament with a goal to push ourselves and grow."

NIACC freshman Kenedee Frayne had 36 assists, four digs and one ace serve.

"Kenedee Frayne stepped up to play a big role today as a 6-rotation setter due to illness," Brandt said, "and the team adapted well to lineup changes and other challenges along the way.

"The work the team put in was impressive and they should be proud of their efforts.'

Also for the Trojans on Saturday, sophomore Ellie Hanna had eight kills and three blocks. Freshman Emma Miller had nine kills, 15 digs, four blocks and one ace serve.

NIACC's Kinsey Anderson had 19 digs, two assists and one ace serve, Addison Tabbert had 13 digs, one kill and one ace serve and Alicia Machacek had two kills.

The Trojans Destiny Reasner had four digs, Megan Tobin had nine kills, three digs and three blocks, Kit Byars had seven kills, five blocks and two digs and Hannah Brinkman had four kills and three blocks.

NIACC (7-11) returns to action at home Wednesday in an ICCAC match against Ellsworth. Game time in the NIACC gym is set for 7 p.m.
