NIACC drops pair at Siouxland Invite

SIOUX CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday at the Siouxland Invitational.

NIACC dropped a 3-0 decision to Central CC-Columbus in its first match Friday. Central CC-Columbus won 25-15, 25-13, 25-23.

In its second contest, NIACC fell to Ellsworth 3-0. The Panthers won 25-20, 25-21, 25-17.

"(Friday) didn't go as well as we would have wanted," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "and we need to work a little harder together as a team.

"Lots of little things need to be more consistent and that will require individual discipline to make happen. With any opportunity, we can grow from this opportunity and (Saturday) we have another day."

Hannah Brinkman and Ellie Hanna led the Trojans with 12 kills each on Friday. Hanna also had seven blocks and two ace serves and Brinkman contributed three blocks.

Also for the Trojans, Emily Opstvedt had 26 assists and 10 digs. Kenedee Frayne had 21 assists, six digs, three kills and two ace serves.

NIACC's Kinsey Anderson had 18 digs and five assists, Addison Tabbert had eight digs, Alicia Machacek had eight kills and five blocks and Destiny Reasner had seven digs.

The Trojans' Emma Miller had seven digs and five kills and Kit Byars had seven kills and five blocks.

NIACC (2-4 overall) returns to action Saturday with two more matches at the Siouxland Invitational. The Trojans face Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at 11 a.m. and Iowa Lakes at 1 p.m.
