Trojans top Marshalltown CC, 3-1
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team opened its ICCAC season with a 3-1 win over Marshalltown CC Wednesday night in the NIACC gym.
NIACC (3-6 overall) topped the Tigers 25-21, 26-24, 12-25, 25-20.
"The home opener is always exciting and to have a conference win to build our confidence is even better," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We didn't always make things easy on us but the team kept fighting until the end.
"It was an impressive showing from our back row players who kept us in the game several times throughout the match.'
Freshman Emma Miller led the Trojans with a career-high 13 kills, 14 digs and two assists. Sophomore Ellie Hanna had eight kills and three digs.
NIACC's Emily Opstvedt had 18 assists, 13 digs, two ace serves and one kill. The Trojans' Kenedee Frayne had 16 assists, 10 digs, two ace serves and one kill.
Also for the Trojans, Kinsey Anderson had 22 digs, four assists, one ace serve and one kill, Addison Tabbert had three kills and two digs, Megan Tobin had six kills, three digs and one block and Kit Byars had six kills and three blocks.
NIACC's Hannah Brinkman had four kills and two digs and Alana Burton had two kills and one block.
NIACC returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Marshalltown CC Tiger Invitational.
