NIACC's Byars earns ICCAC weekly honor
MASON CITY - For the second time this season, a NIACC volleyball player has received ICCAC player of the week honors.
NIACC freshman middle hitter Kit Byars was selected as the league's player of the week for the week of Oct. 23-29. NIACC's Kennedy Schwiesow was the league's player of the week for the week of Oct. 5-9, 2023.
Byars, who is from Lake Mills, collected 10 digs, seven kills and seven blocks in the Trojans' 3-1 win over Marshalltown CC on Oct. 25.
Byars leads the Trojans with 132 blocks, which ranks second in the ICCAC Division II. The 132 blocks is the most in a season for a NIACC player since Karlie Niedert recorded 135 blocks in 2015.
Eighth-seed NIACC (14-23) opens NJCAA Region 11 tournament play at top-seed and 11th-ranked DMACC (26-9) on Wednesday. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. in Boone.
