
NIACC stops Marshalltown CC, 3-2
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team topped Marshalltown CC 3-2 in a non-league match Saturday in the NIACC gym.
NIACC won 25-13, 26-24, 20-25, 16-25, 16-14.
"We started playing strong and then made it look harder than it needed to be," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "Nonetheless, we are happy with the outcome.
"We are also proud of the team who worked with another new lineup (Saturday) and adapted to the strengths and weaknesses of that change."
Sophomore Alyssa Wickersheim led the Trojans with 10 kills, nine digs and two ace serves. Sophomore Jaida Hansen had six kills, four digs and four blocks.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Kennedy Schwiesow had a career-high 35 digs, three assists and one ace serve. Alicia Machacek had six kills, three digs and one block.
NIACC's Abbie Hyde had 13 digs and two ace serves, Kelly Miller had five kills, Ellie Hanna had six kills, four blocks and two digs and Zhane Singer had eight kills, which matched her career-high, and three blocks.
NIACC's Iwalani Beltran had 21 assists, 12 digs and five ace serves, which matched her career high. The Trojans' Emily Opstvedt had 12 assists and nine digs.
NIACC (12-19 overall) returns to action Wednesday at home against Northeast CC in an ICCAC contest on sophomore night. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
