
NIACC falls to Northeast CC, 3-0
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Northeast CC Wednesday night in an ICCAC match on sophomore night in the NIACC gym.
Northeast CC won 25-20, 25-16, 25-20.
Before the match, NIACC sophomores Jaida Hansen, Abbie Hyde, Kennedy Schwiesow, Iwalani Beltran, Alyssa Wickersheim, Saige Sullivan and AnnMarie Peters were honored.
"It was an honor to start the night celebrating our sophomores and their families who have supported them along this journey," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "They are a wonderful group of young women, who will continue to do amazing things."
Wickersheim led the Trojans with 11 kills and 12 digs. Hansen had six kills, three digs and one block.
Also for the Trojans, Schwiesow had 23 digs and four assists, Beltran had 16 assists, 12 digs and one ace serve and Emily Opstvedt had seven assists and seven digs.
Hyde had 11 digs and one ace serve, Alicia Machacek had three blocks, Kelly Miller had three kills and four digs, Ellie Hanna had five kills and two blocks, Kit Byars had two blocks and Zhane Singer had two kills and one block.
"(Wednesday), we fell short of our overall goal," Brandt said, "but we did see some smaller parts of the game come together.
"We need to keep our opponents from getting the large runs that ultimately put us behind late in the sets."
NIACC (12-20 overall, 2-8 in the ICCAC) returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Iowa Central Triton Invitational in Fort Dodge.
